The former Wildcat was not one of the three final players selected despite his stellar season.
Tyler Herro has been nothing short of amazing this season while becoming the Miami Heat’s primary scoring option. The former Kentucky Wildcats standout has earned respect from all over the league and was even named to the 2025 All-Star team.
Yet somehow, Herro didn’t find his name on the recently released list naming the three finalists for the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award.
Former #1 pick Cade Cunningham from the Detroit Pistons was selected along with Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels and Ivica Zubac from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Some would call this a snub.
Herro’s offensive production saw an uplift this season, most notably his scoring average.
Now in his sixth NBA season, Herro has transformed into one of the biggest threats to get a bucket in the entire league by pouring in nearly 24 points per contest.
Despite being heavily leaned on, the Wisconsin native increased his overall field-goal percentage by over 3% from a year ago.
Tyrese Maxey (2024) and Julius Randle (2021) are the only two former Kentucky players to ever win the award.
After tearing it up recently and positioning the Heat to make the playoffs, Herro had a rough outing on Sunday against the Cavs in game one of their first-round series.
It was a mediocre offensive night for Herro scoring 21 points on 7/18 shooting. But it was Cleveland’s game plan to target Herro on defense that has caused some concern.
“They were denying me the ball. Making sure I always had a body on me. They were a lot more physical than us. We know what we have to do to clean it up.” Herro told reporters after the Heat’s 121-100 loss to the Cavs.
You can watch Tyler Herro fill it up on Wednesday at 7:30 PM when Miami tries to even up the series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers on NBATV.
