Revenue sharing will be a game-changer in college athletics.
With the House settlement seemingly on the horizon despite some delays, UK Athletics is making some notable changes to its governance.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees voted earlier today to form a new affiliated corporation. That corporation will be called Champions Blue and include UK Athletics.
Under the new structure, the athletics department would remain a public entity. That means it would still be subject to state and federal regulations, just like the university. However, the department would operate separately from university policies for things like employee benefit packages.
Also of note: The new governing board could include representatives from professional sports to advise the department on the changing landscape of college sports. The Champions Blue governing board will still be overseen by the UK Board of Trustees.
This is one of the first notable moves made in preparation for the House settlement and changes coming to Kentucky Wildcats athletics.
