Cowan was formerly committed to Kentucky before signing with the Trojans.
The spring transfer portal is now open for college football, and we should expect the Kentucky Wildcats to make a flurry of roster additions.
We already saw the first one happen Thursday morning when former Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Hardley Gilmore IV made his return to Kentucky.
Now, Kentucky has landed a signature from USC Trojans edge Lorenzo Cowan, according to 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Cowan will have four seasons of eligibility remaining after redshirting this season as a true freshman.
Originally a 3-star recruit in the class of 2024, the Savannah (GA) native was committed to Kentucky at one point before ultimately signing with USC. 247 Sports had him ranked 894th nationally, 60th among edge prospects, and 102nd in the state of Georgia.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Cowan held additional scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Duke, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, and South Florida, among others.
This spring, USC head coach Lincoln Riley shared some nice praise for Cowan.
“Zo Cowan has had a really nice spring camp up to this point,” Riley said via On3. “One of the guys, along with Tobias [Raymond], that we actually pointed out to the team in the team meeting yesterday as two guys that you kind of feel have really taken a jump right now. Real proud of their development.”
Cowan now gives Kentucky some much needed depth along the edge.
