Longtime UK assistant Vince Marrow confirmed his departure to Louisville in a brief text message exchange with Kentucky athletics officials.

After 12 years on the sidelines in Lexington, Vince Marrow’s departure from the University of Kentucky was confirmed through a text message.

Through a public records request from Lyndsey Gough of WKYT Sports obtained the brief exchange between Marrow and Kentucky Deputy Athletics Director Mark Hill, revealing the long-time assistant’s quiet exit from the program. The text thread took place on Thursday, June 12, which was the same day Marrow was officially announced as the new Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting.

At 10:57 a.m., Hill texted Marrow, “Let me know when we can chat about moving on.” A minute later, Hill followed up with a list of items needing to be returned, writing, “Car, any devices and keys, etc. All the things.”

Marrow, known for his big personality and impact on UK’s recruiting success, responded at 11:12 a.m. with just one letter: “K.” He followed that up at 11:49 a.m. with a more formal message: “Hey Mark today is my last day at UK. Thanks for everything.”

Hill acknowledged the departure with a message at 12:33 p.m., saying, “Thanks. Let me know when you want to get your Ford Expedition to my house.”

After WKYT’s Lyndsey Gough posted the exchange on Twitter, Marrow responded directly to her tweet to clarify the situation:

“I spoke to my boss as well as other administrators and it [was] very clear that I was leaving. I was told several days later that I needed to resign. Mark Hill asked me to send a text message saying today was my last day. Thanks for the opportunity and God bless,” Marrow says in a tweet.

Marrow’s move to in-state rival Louisville marks a significant shift in the state’s college football landscape. Marrow known as “The Big Dog,” with his recruiting prowess helped elevate Kentucky football during his time on staff. Now, he’ll be working to bring that same energy to the other side of the Bluegrass.
