The transfer portal is back in full swing.
Good morning, BBN!
Things are starting to heat up in the portal.
New Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope didn’t take long to make a splash. Just two days after his massive press conference, he secured a former Utah Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Collin Chandler.
Chandler was in the class of 2022, and he was already committed to Pope at BYU, but he took a couple of years off to go into mission work. It is an admirable decision, but now, he’s ready to get back to hoops. He’s 20 years old and looks like a great fit for Pope’s offense.
There were multiple reports about other players the Cats are interested in, but some reporters like Matt Jones aren’t disclosing names just yet, though he did offer this interesting prediction:
When all is said and done, here is my guess at UK roster:
3 Freshmen (Perry and Chandler are 2)
2 BYU kids
2 top 25 from ESPN
2 26-55 from ESPN
Other role guys— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) April 16, 2024
One confirmed player that was mentioned is Andrej Stojakovic, son of former NBA player Peja Stojaković. The Cats have reached out, but it’s unclear how serious of a suitor they are.
I’m sure by this time next week, we’ll have a much better idea of what the Cats will look like next year.
Kentucky Football did have a couple of players hit the portal after the conclusion of spring football, the biggest being wide receiver Raymond Cottrell. If you remember, he transferred to the Cats earlier this offseason from Texas A&M. He’s a former 4-star recruit.
Elsewhere in the state, the Louisville Cardinals had six players enter the transfer portal when it opened. Here’s a list of those players and a breakdown of who they are.
One of their bigger ones was running back Peny Boone. He had 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns last season with Toledo, so that one stings.
What will happen today in the transfer portal?

It’s insane that you can bet on this game already, knowing neither team has barely any players. With that said, are you riding with the Cats?
