Colts Reportedly Worked Out Notable QB Prospect

Earlier this offseason, the Indianapolis Colts acquired longtime NFL veteran Matt Ryan as their starting quarterback heading into the 2022 season.

That hasn’t stopped the team from looking into this year’s incoming QB draft prospects, though.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Colts representatives took a visit to Ohio on Friday to check out Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder ahead of this month’s draft.

“The Colts made the short drive today to visit and work out Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder and a number of Bearcats receivers in Ohio. Interesting one, given that Indy’s already moved up in the second round. The Colts’ first pick is 42nd overall,” Breer reports.

The Colts lost their 2022 first-round pick when Carson Wentz reached his snap count in the 2021 season. The conditional first-round pick sent to Philadelphia to acquire Wentz would have been a second-rounder had he not reached this mark.

Ridder is a top quarterback option in this year’s class, but many mock drafts have him slipping well into the second round of the 2022 draft. If the Bearcats QB does slide all the way down to the Colts’ first pick of the draft (No. 42), they may consider taking him as a backup option behind Ryan.

As of right now, the quarterback depth chart behind Ryan consists of Sam Ehlinger and Sam Morgan.

The 2022 NFL Draft will kickoff on April 28.
