Four-star wing Shon Abaev has committed to Cincinnati.
The 6-foot-7 left-hander from Calvary Christian (FL) chose the Bearcats over Arkansas, Auburn
Arizona State and Oregon.
“I chose Cincy because I just felt like it was the best fit for to make my dream come true and make it to the NBA,” he told On3.com.
“It was just a gut feeling I had that I felt like was enough for me to say that I wanted to play for Coach Wes Miller and his staff,” he added. “Throughout the recruitment process I felt like I built the best relationship with Wes Miller than other head coaches.”
Calvary Christian coach Cilk McSweeney has known Cincinnati coach Wes Miller for many years.
“I’ve known Wes Miller since high school playing days,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “The same way he played the game is the same approach he takes for his program! He’s one of the best young coaches in the nation! We want Shon to be his first NBA Draft pick! We believe in the plan they have for Shon and being in the Big 12 Conference is added plus! Salute to Coach Dolla and Coach Wes doing a Great job recruiting Shon!”
ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla told ZAGSBLOG:
“He’s a unique point-forward type of player. At 6-7 he can certainly score but his greatest attribute offensively is he’s a great transition point guard with terrific vision that makes people better.”
