Four-star forward Joe Philon announced his top five schools on Friday, Joe Tipton first reported. The 6-foot-9 senior from Montverde Academy (FL) is down to UCLA, Xavier, UNLV, Ohio State and South Florida.
Philon recently played in the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, where he broke down two of the schools most heavily involved in his recruitment with ZAGSBLOG.
South Florida: “You gotta love the fact that its close to home. They have a really great staff. Those guys are all friends, both on and off the court. They are going to push you on the floor and also love you.”
UCLA: It’s a historic program. Being out there on the West Coast, out in Los Angeles, it would definitely be cool. I recently had a Zoom call with coach (Mick) Cronin and the coaching staff. I’m getting to know them and building the relationship.”
In addition to South Florida, Philon also recently took a visit to Ohio State in October and is still planning on scheduling visits to UNLV, UCLA and Xavier.
Philon has not yet made a timeline for his commitment public, but the top-50 recruit entered the new year as one of the top remaining unsigned players in the class of 2026.
