September 19, 2025 by Red Leg Nation

The Cincinnati Reds are set to being their final home stand of the regular season tonight as they welcome in the Chicago Cubs. Two games out of the wild card spot with 10 games remaining, Cincinnati has next to no room for error the rest of the season. Tonight’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:15pm ET. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

Hunter Greene

The last time he was on the mound Hunter Greene had his worst start of the season. The Athletics scored five runs against him on four hits and four walks in just 2.1 innings. In the five starts before that since coming off of the injured list he had allowed just eight earned in 30.2 innings (2.35 ERA).

The splits aren’t that big for Greene this season. Righties hit for a higher average, but they hit for less power. Lefties are also walking a tad more often and making less contact against him.

Colin Rea

Most of the season has seen Colin Rea pitch out of the Cubs rotation, but he’s made  a few relief appearances too. Those all came at the start of the year (actual relief appearances, not games where he pitched after an opener). Since the All-Star break, Rea has struggled to find consistency. He’s had several really good starts, but multiple clunkers mixed in there, too. In his final two starts of May he faced the Reds and they scored six runs off of him in each start.

The splits this season against Rea are huge. He’s holding right-handed hitters to a .612 OPS and they aren’t doing much of anything. Left-handed hitters are hitting .302, drawing walks at a solid rate, and they are hitting for a lot of power against him.

News and Notes

Ke’Bryan Hayes out with back issues

Manager Terry Francona said today that Hayes is out of the lineup due to some back issues and is day-to-day. He also noted that Hayes was trying to get an appointment with a specialist in Indianapolis but they don’t think they can do that before Monday. This was first reported by Mike Petraglia.

The Mets win

It’s definitely scoreboard watching season. The New York Mets picked up a win this afternoon over San Diego to move to 79-74. Cincinnati needs to win tonight to keep pace.

Wild Card Standings

With the division firmly out of reach, we are switching to the Wild Card standings for the rest of the season.
