That’s still a series victory on the road, though!
Old friend Jonathan India was on base three times, superstar Bobby Witt, Jr. doubled and drove in a pair, and the Kansas City Royals eeked out a 3-2 win over Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds in Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night.
The loss means the Reds, by definition, did not complete the series sweep of Kansas City, which is something this otherwise AI-similar introduction probably needed not define. The reality is, though, that this series in Kansas City did restore a bit of the confidence in the Reds collective ability to make this season something more than a disaster as it saw them climb back to the .500 mark with yesterday’s victory only to slide back below that line with today’s loss.
Lefty Noah Cameron got the start for KC on the night, and he continued the trend of ‘otherwise nondescript lefties who manage to completely shut down the Cincinnati Reds offense.’ He allowed just a lone ER in his 6.1 IP as the Reds simply could not find a way to muster anything against him while fielding a lineup featuring corner outfielders Garrett Hampson and Connor Joe.
Imagine that!
Greene, meanwhile, yielded 7 hits and a pair of earned runs while walking one and fanning a trio across 5.0 IP. He needed 88 pitches to get to that mark, and manager Terry Francona opted to pull him early as a result. Luis Mey later yielded what became the game defining run in the Bottom of the 7th, and that was that.
The Reds now sit 28-29 on the season (and 14-15 in away games) as they head into a day off on Thursday.
On Friday, they’ll begin a weekend series against the same Chicago Cubs squad that punked the twice in a series in GABP just last week, only this time it’ll be in Wrigley Field for a trio of day games. Somewhere, I’m sure Harry Caray has a beer-stained shirt on and a smile a mile long just thinking about it.
Good lord, he’d be 111 years old right now. He’s not, though.
