The Cincinnati Reds are playing on national television tonight and it’s something Major League Baseball is making a pretty big deal about. They’ve built a field on the inside of a race track in Bristol, Tennessee. It’s the first Major League Baseball game ever played in the state. It’s a huge event that is expected to have over 85,000 people in attendance for. And tonight’s roster for the Cincinnati Reds is going to look quite a bit different than it did last night.
Newcomers to the club via trade deadline acquisitions Miguel Andujar and Zack Littell have both reported to the team and are activated. Outfielder TJ Friedl has been activated from the restricted list where he spent a day after being on the paternity list and spending a few days with his now larger family.
For “marquee event games” or whatever they are called, Major League Baseball allows teams to carry 27 players. So while Cincinnati has added three players to their roster today, they only had to send two players out. Connor Joe is the position player that is being optioned to Triple-A. He will be joined on that journey to the minor leagues by right-handed reliever Lyon Richardson. Both moves were backdated to post-game on August 1st.
Zack Littell is almost assuredly not going to play in the game today. He made a start on July 31st against the New York Yankees and isn’t going to be available on normal rest for a few more days. There is a chance that we could see Miguel Andujar make his Reds debut in the game, though.
