Cincinnati Reds to send Rhett Lowder to the Arizona Fall League

October 4, 2025 by Red Leg Nation

There had been some speculation about whether or not Rhett Lowder would be healthy enough to pitch in the Arizona Fall League this year or not. The 2025 season was one full of injuries that kept him off of the mound most of the year. He missed the start of the year with an elbow injury. While rehabbing from that he injured his oblique and then missed four months. When he began another rehab in September he made a few starts, but then on September 19th his start for Triple-A Louisville was scratched as his shoulder didn’t feel right after the previous start. An MRI showed no structural damage, but he didn’t pitch in any games after that, with Louisville only having five more games in their season at that point.

Well it would appear the club thinks that Rhett Lowder is now healthy enough to give it another go because it was announced that he will be joining the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League. Loweder will be one of seven players from the Reds organization with Peoria – joining catcher and top prospect Alfredo Duno, infielders Cam Collier and Leo Balcazar, as well as pitchers Johnathan Harmon, Luke Hayden, and Trevor Kuncl. The Arizona Fall League begins on October 6th and will run through mid-November. Most starting pitchers tend to get 20-25 innings during that time.

For Lowder and the Reds, there are plenty of reasons to get on the mound. First, if he can actually end the year healthy and having pitched some before that, it’s a confidence booster heading into the offseason. But it also just gives him some work to build upon heading into next season where he’s going to be competing for a spot in the rotation that as of right now is far from a certainty for him at the big league level.

Updated to reflect the correct dates and timeframe for Lowder’s final rehab attempt and scratch from a start. It was originally written that it was August 19th instead of September 19th.
