Nick Lodolo
Left-hander Nick Lodolo has gotten off to a hot start in 2025. First, he’s been able to go deep into games, pitching six innings against the Giants at GABP and into the seventh inning in Milwaukee last week. He hasn’t struck out a lot of batters–his K% is only 10.4% through those 12.2 innings, but what Lodolo has done well is not allow walks. He has not allowed any walks yet in this young season. (And of course, now that I say that, he’ll walk at least one batter tonight).
It’s still early, but Lodolo is throwing his change up more and his curveball less. In 2024, he only threw his change up 16.4% of the time and almost always to right-handed hitters. Compare that to 2025, where Lodolo has still only thrown the changeup to right-handers, but has thrown it 22.0% of the time and hitters have yet to get a hit against his changeup in 20 plate appearances.

Landen Roupp
This will be Roupp’s second start of the season. He started the game last Wednesday against the Astros and had a no-decision while giving up three runs on four hits in four innings. He did strikeout eight Astros hitters, but he also walked four. A 12th round selection in 2021, Roupp made his major league debut for the Giants last year, pitching mostly out of the bullpen up until September. He had a 3.58 ERA in 50.1 innings with 47 strikeouts in 2024.
Roupp’s weakness last year was his lack of control, as he walked 26 batters in those 50 innings. Even in August 2024, when he had a 0.87 ERA in 10.1 innings pitching out of the Giants bullpen, Roupp still allowed seven walks. The lack of control has continued into 2025: he walked four batters in the four innings he pitched last Wednesday against Houston.
