Hunter Greene also had a solid start.
It was an overall underwhelming weekend for the Bats. On Friday they played two, making up for a postponement on Thursday. In Game One, Riley “Father” O’Brien kept the Redbirds at bay by only allowing one earned run, two total, over five innings (2 H, 2 BB, 4 K). Michael “Swol” Lorenzen got a rehab appearance (he’ll be back in Cincy on Friday) and did just fine in picking up the save. He struck out two in his two scoreless innings. Max “Effort” Schrock provided the firepower for the Bats by going two for three with two ding dongs and three RBI total. In game two, Bo “Knows” Takahashi gave up only and earned run over five innings (3 H, 1 BB, 7 K), and Sanmartin, Feliz, and Alaniz all combined to give up just one unearned run over the final three innings, but the offense was poop. The Bats had their game on Saturday banged which leads up to Sunday’s snooze fest. Hunter “John Deere” Greene took the start and was effective but not fooling anyone. He only gave up one earned run on a solo homer over five inning but his strikeout numbers were down (6 H, 2 BB, 2 K). He also drove in the only run for the Bats with single. That’s sad. There is not much else to report for the rest of the game.
Chattanooga had their games on Saturday and Sunday banged due to water falling from the sky so we’ll just be talking about Friyay. Ricky “Spittin” Salinas must have done something to piss his team off because he gave up ten total runs in 1.2 innings but only two of them were earned. That sucks. He allowed six hits, two walks, while striking out only two. He did give up two dingers. Diaz (1.1 IP, 0 K), Perez (1 IP, 0 K), and Pidich (2 IP, 3 K) did their job out of the pen to try and stop the pain. In the comeback effort that fell short, Mark “Coolio” Kolozsvary went 2 for 5 with a two run dinger and two runs scored, Pedro”Ricola” Cedrola went 3 for 5with a triple and a run scored, and Wilson “WILSON!” Garcia went 3 for 5 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored.
It was a downer weekend considering the good year the Dragons are having. On Friday, Eduardo “Sizzlin” Salazar gave up two earned over six innings (5 H, 0 BB, 7 K) and it was just a fantastic outing for him. Duarte struck out one in a shutout inning of relief. Jacob Hurtubise went 2 for 5 with a triple and a run scored, Francisco “Treat” Urbaez got on base three times (one hit, two walks) while scoring twice, and Alex “Big” McGarry went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. On Saturday, the Dragons got great pitching overall. Noah “Ark” Davis gave up two earned runs, three total, over five innings (3 H, 3 BB, 7 K) and Karcher pitched a clean inning with a strikeout. However, the offense was stagnant with Urbaez and Ruiz both going 2 for 4 with a double. Ruiz drove in the only run. Nothing went right on Sunday outside of Quin Cotton “Hill” and Michael “The Franchise” Siani both have thing three hits. Siani doubled because he’s cool and Miguel Hernandez singled, walked twice, and drove in a run.
A lot of this is sad and I’m tired of typing so I’m gonna keep it brief. On Friday Danny “Fettuccini” Lantigua and Ivan “The Awesome” Johnson both dingered. The make up game they played after was just a bunch of poops. They were also awful on Saturday but Johnson was 2 for 4 with a double and it’s nice to see him hitting better and Lockwood and Abril were solid from the pen. For their lone win on Sunday, Miguel “Mike” Medrano gave up only and earned run over three innings but I wouldn’t call his outing good (3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K). Koch, Branche, and Timpanelli were solid in the pen. Timpanelli is always good. Wendell Marrero went 2 for 4 with a solo dinger, two RBI, and a run scored.
