Game 51: Reds at Pirates (12:35 PM ET) – Singer vs. Heaney

Can the Reds win a road series against a completely meh ballclub? Or, are they ‘meh’ themselves?

Game 51.

Game 51, the 51st game of the 2025 season, the game after the 50th game of the season yet before the 52nd game of the season.

Thou shalt not play the 53rd game of the season or the 54th game of the season lest ye play the 52nd game of the season first, and the 52nd game of the season shant be played lest the 51st game of the season commenced and finished.

The Cincinnati Reds, through 50 games, have shown us neither winning ways nor losing. They stand 25-25 through 50 games, Game 51 now lurking just minutes away against their foes the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Their pitching? Largely excellent, especially from their core corps of starters.

Their hitting? Suspect, especially against LHP – they’ve already been shutout in 8 games of the 50 games they have played this year, Game 51 looming next with lefty Andrew Heaney toeing the rubber.

A win today takes the series from the lowly Pirates. A loss today means they’ve lost series to the lowly Pirates and lowly Chicago White Sox within the same week, hardly an endorsement that this club is destined for anything other than mediocrity.

Game 51, the next game on the Reds schedule, is the first game towards being over .500 for the rest of 2025. It’s beginning shortly, a 12:35 PM ET first pitch set in Pittsburgh, with Brady Singer getting another start for the Reds club.
