Just minutes after feeling jubilation of watching the Cincinnati Reds hold on for a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers that ended when TJ Friedl robbed Jake Bauers of a game-tying home run to record the final out, news came out that Hunter Greene’s night was cut short because he felt soreness in his groin in the 5th inning. Mark Sheldon of Reds.com reported that Greene is going to get an MRI on Wednesday.
The start on Tuesday night was just the third for Greene since he returned from the 15-day injured list. He missed 15 days and two starts after suffering a groin injury in a start in Atlanta in early May.
If you are looking for a sliver of hope it may rest on the fact that Greene did not have a situation like he did in Atlanta where he clearly felt something and had to call for the trainer to come out. In this start he completed the inning and then said something once he was in the dugout. Then there’s what Greene said after the game when meeting with reporters noting among other things “it’s not really concerning, it’s frustrating”:

On the opposite side of that, though, is that he did experience some sort of pain, or discomfort in the groin that he has already dealt with one injury on this season. That is never something you want to see.
For now we are all going to have to be in wait-and-see mode with regards to Greene. He’ll have an MRI tomorrow morning, but it seems unlikely that there will be any news on how that MRI turned out until after the game given the timing of the afternoon game on Wednesday.
