June 6, 2025 by Red Leg Nation

Last night saw the Reds win on a thrilling final play as TJ Friedl robbed what would have been a game-tying home run for the final out of Cincinnati’s 4-2 win over the Brewers. The loss for Milwaukee ended their 8-game winning streak. This afternoon’s contest will decide the winner of the 3-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:40pm ET.

Andrew Abbott

So far in 2025 Andrew Abbott has been among the best pitchers in Major League Baseball. In four of his starts he’s allowed exactly one earned run, and in another four he’s allowed zero earned runs. The last time out he allowed just one hit in 7.0 shutout innings against the Cubs.

Teams have avoided sending many left-handed hitters up to the plate against Abbott, but when they have gotten the chance they’ve done next to nothing. Right-handed hitters have done better, but not by much as they’ve put up a .573 OPS against him this season.

DL Hall

The season just recently started for DL Hall after he began the year on the 60-day injured list with a lat injury. After making four rehab appearances in May, Hall returned to the big leagues on May 26th and has thrown 5.1 innings in two games this season.

The lefty has spent much of his career as a reliever, but he did made seven starts for the Brewers last season before transitioning back to the bullpen. In his parts of four seasons in the big leagues he’s only thrown 81.1 innings.

His splits last season showed that lefties didn’t do much against him in limited opportunities. Right-handed hitters, though, performed quite well against him as they hit for a high average, walked plenty, and showed a solid amount of power.

News and Notes

Hunter Greene placed on the injured list

Last night saw Greene’s start get cut short after he experienced some soreness in his groin. This morning he was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Reds  sign Wade Miley

With the Greene injury the Reds went out and signed Wade Miley, who had just become a free agent four days ago after opting out of his minor league deal with Cincinnati. This new deal is a big league deal.

Jeimer Candelario’s rehab

The Reds infielder has now played two games with the Arizona Complex League Reds while on a rehab assignment. He’s doubled and walked in both games, going 3-6 with three runs batted in.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand’s rehab

He’s been on rehab a bit longer than Candelario has. He’s now in Triple-A and last night he went 0-2 with two strikeouts and three walks. Encarnacion-Strand has played in 10 rehab games – eight with Louisville and two in Arizona – and is now hitting .333/.436/.697 with five walks and 10 strikeouts.
