The game got out to a nice start for the Reds as they picked up a solo home run from Noelvi Marte in the 1st and got a 2-run home run from Will Benson in the 2nd inning to grab a 3-0 lead. That’s where the score remained until the bottom of the 4th. Nick Lodolo gave up two solo home runs in the inning and four hits total as he and Cincinnati clung to a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the 6th inning the Reds got a walk from pinch hitter Austin Hayes and a 2-out single from Jose Trevino, but they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity and saw both runners stranded.
In the bottom of the 6th the Athletics tacked on another run when Brett Harris doubled. The next inning they would tack on two more runs when Nick Kurtz extended the inning with a 2-out walk and then saw Brent Rooker hit his 29th homer of the year to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
Sal Stewart would hit a solo home run in the 8th inning to cut the deficit to three runs. That was the last hit the team would get as they were swept in Sacramento with the Athletics picking up a 7-4 win on Sunday.
