Oof, what a list in that title, huh? The Cincinnati Reds are an injured team right now, but things seem to be moving in the right direction on this day as manager David Bell provided some updates on a handful of players who are attempting to make their way back from various injuries.
On Tejay Antone
“Tejay will likely start throwing bullpens next week,” said Bell. “That’s a good sign. He’s getting close.”
It’s been nearly a month since Tejay Antone last pitched. He threw against Atlanta on June 24th and had been on the injured list since. That outing, and the one before it came just after he had missed the previous two weeks on the injured list. Antone, holding a 1.87 ERA, had been about the only reliable reliever on the team in the first half of the season.
On Nick Senzel
“Senzel will also be playing next week in Triple-A,” manager David Bell said on Tuesday.
It’s been just over two months since we last saw Nick Senzel on the field. His last game was on May 17th against San Francisco. Shortly after that he hit the injured list and wound up requiring knee surgery. In the last week or so he’s been on the field at Great American Ball Park during pre-game activities working on taking ground balls around the infield. It seems that there is a plan in place to perhaps try and work him into spots on the infield as well as the outfield when he returns.
On Alex Blandino
“(Will go on a) Rehab assignment next week,” Bell said. “So he will be playing games.”
Everyone’s favorite knuckleballer hasn’t played since June 4th when he was hit by a pitch and broke his hand. He, like Senzel, has been on the field in pre-game activities the last week or so taking ground balls.
On Lucas Sims
“Sims will have an outing in Triple-A next week,” said David Bell.
It hasn’t quite been a month since we last saw Lucas Sims on the mound. On June 22nd he allowed three runs without recording an out in a win against Minnesota before hitting the injured list with a sprained pitching elbow. Prior to that outing against the Twins, Sims had allowed just one run in his previous 11 games while striking out 18 batters in 12.0 innings.
On Michael Feliz
“Starting Saturday he will get a couple more outings (on rehab),” Bell said prior to Tuesday’s game. “If everything checks out he’s an option to rejoin us.”
This will be the second rehab stint for Michael Feliz. He joined the Louisville Bats earlier this month, but was brought back after he didn’t quite feel like he was recovering right after an outing.
On Mike Moustakas
“Moose is progressing a lot quicker now, which is great news,” Bell said. “He’s going to start a field progression in the next couple of days.”
It’s been two months and a week since Mike Moustakas injured his foot in Colorado. He played twice after that, coming on as a pinch hitter, before being placed on the injured list. In mid-June he headed to Louisville to start a rehab assignment, but after one game – he went 1-3 in that game and played third base – he came back to Cincinnati after not feeling right.
