Reds prospect Drew Davies has a big day in winter ball

December 21, 2025 by Red Leg Nation

Among the winter leagues around the world that are able to be followed the Australian Baseball League is the both the least well known and the one with the lowest level of competition. The Cincinnati Reds have four players in the 4-team league. Three players – all of whom spent the 2025 season in the Dominican Summer League – are playing together for Sydney. But Drew Davies, who is Australian, is playing for Adelaide. The two teams are facing off against each other this week and on Friday night/Saturday morning. After Sydney and the Reds prospects were the standouts earlier in the week, Davies was the star on this day.

Starting in right field for Adelaide in game one, Drew Davies picked up three hits. After he singled in the 4th inning he returned to the plate in the 5th inning with a runner on and he unloaded on a pitch for a 2-run home run. It was the first home run the recently turned 20-year-old has hit in his home country’s winter league. In the 2025 minor league season he hit four of them in 81 games, splitting time between the Arizona Complex League and Single-A Daytona.

Davies picked up another single in his final at-bat of game one, finishing 3-4 with a home run. The left-handed hitter would also start in right field in game two and he picked up two more hits. One of those hits was a double. That gave him a 5-8 day with a double and a home run for Adelaide.

On the other side none of the Reds prospects had quite the same kind of day as Davies did, but catcher Jirvin Morillo did go 2-3 with two doubles in the first game. He followed that up by going 0-4 in the second game – still a solid day at the dish. He’s now hitting .313/400/.484 through 19 games. Morillo’s .884 OPS ranks 9th in the league. Both he and Davies have six doubles, which is tied for 8th in the league.
