Can the offense stay alive?
The Cincinnati Reds took 2 of 3 from the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend, blistering O’s pitching (and position players) for 24 runs in a rout on Sunday to seal the series victory.
Their road trip next takes them south to Miami, where the 9-12 Marlins have already yielded the third-most runs to their opponents of any team in baseball so far this year. The Marlins recently lost 5 games in a row (including a sweep at home at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks) before finally getting a win in their series finale in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Might there be another blowout from the Cincinnati Reds offense in store?
Miami’s offense is roughly middle of the pack overall so far in 2025, their 97 wRC+ sitting as 19th of the 30 MLB clubs. They’ve socked only 16 homers so far (tied for the 4th fewest) and have swiped just 15 bags (tied for 19th), so on paper there doesn’t appear to be too much in front of the Reds to worry about. Of course, we saw just yesterday how much one game can skew a small sample worth of results, as suddenly the same Reds offense that could score a run for nearly four games a week ago now has a collective wRC+ of 100.
