Last week saw Rhett Lowder take the mound for Louisville in Triple-A and fail to record two outs in the 1st inning before he was taken out of the game as he ran up his pitch count to 29 and the club didn’t want to push him beyond that point in an inning. He returned to the mound on Thursday night for the Bats, making his 4th rehab start overall and 2nd with Louisville. He threw a hitless 1st inning with a walk. Lowder returned for the 2nd inning and threw one pitch and it didn’t go well as the trainer and manager headed to the mound after it, had a short conversation, and then Lowder walked to the dugout.
Update: 8:10pm
Dusty Baker of Wave 3 News in Louisville has video of the pitch and it appears that Lowder motions to his side/oblique several times.

He had thrown just 12 pitches in the start. Only five of them were strikes. His rehab stints have not gone well. Lowder has now thrown 7.1 innings and given up 10 earned runs on 13 hits, three walks, and he’s struck out 11 batters. The performance doesn’t matter all that much, and now that he’s appeared to suffer some kind of injury, it matters all that much less. But it certainly hasn’t been a smooth recovery for the 2023 1st round draft pick.
We will update this when there’s more information on Lowder’s injury.
