The Cincinnati Reds picked up a win on Wednesday afternoon thanks in large part to the clutch hitting of Spencer Steer. The infielder drove in five as the Reds topped the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 to pick up a series victory and move back to the .500 mark on the season.

The Cardinals didn’t take too much time on Wednesday afternoon to grab a lead as Alec Burleson hit a 2-out solo homer in the bottom of the 1st inning to put St. Louis up 1-0.
That’s where the score stayed until the 4th. Cincinnati got a 1-out rally started with a walk from Sal Stewart. Elly De La Cruz worked a 7-pitch walk to follow. On the next pitch of the inning Spencer Steer crushed a 3-run homer to put the Reds up by two runs. The next inning would see the road team tack on another run when Andre Pallante threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Gavin Lux and make it 4-1.
Brady Singer was cruising along until the 6th inning when a walk came back to haunt him. Singer issued a leadoff walk and then saw Lars Nootbaar come around to score on the next pitch when Elly De La Cruz was trying to turn a double play and threw the ball by Matt McLain at second base and the ball trickled past the foul line in right field, with Ivan Herrera reaching second base on the play as the Cardinals cut the lead to two runs. Singer would rebound by getting the next two hitters out, but his day ended with two outs in the inning and the Reds turned the game over to Graham Ashcraft with a runner on second base. He shut the door on the threat, striking out Nolan Gorman for the final out of the 6th.
Cincinnati would get that run back in the top of the 7th when Spencer Steer came through in the clutch once again. With two men in scoring position and two outs, Steer blooped a single into shallow right field to extend the Reds lead to 6-2.
Chase Burns took over for Cincinnati in the bottom of the 7th inning and he worked a shutout inning and then came back with another scoreless frame in the 8th. The Reds had Emilio Pagan take the mound for the 9th inning.
