Carson Spiers
Last season saw Carson Spiers split time between the rotation and the bullpen. He made 10 starts for the Reds and 12 relief appearances. He was much better out of the bullpen, where his ERA was nearly three runs lower (3.92 vs 6.62). His splits were wide ranging in most other areas, too. His ERA in the second half was 7.21 after being 3.83 in the first half. At home his ERA was 3.24 runs lower than it was on the road.
When it comes to facing lefties and righties, he did find more success against right-handed hitters. With that said, he didn’t exactly find success against them. They still hit for a high average and a good amount of power. It’s just that lefties crushed him that make those splits a bit different.

Nathan Eovaldi
In his season debut, Nathan Eovaldi allowed two runs on three hits in 6.0 innings while striking out nine batters. He’ll look to repeat that performance tonight in Cincinnati.
Last season left-handed hitters did better against Eovaldi than right-handed hitters. Lefties had a higher average, slightly better walk rate, made more contact, and hit for more power. He was also a bit worse on the road where his OPS against him was 71 points higher and his ERA was 0.38 higher.
