Three Reds listed among top vote getters for the All-Star Game

June 17, 2025 by Red Leg Nation

The Major League Baseball All-Star game is in just under a month. But the All-Star balloting is still going on and the Cincinnati Reds had three players listed among the top 10/20 at their position.

Elly De La Cruz is ranked 4th among the National League shortstops. He’s behind Francisco Lindor, Mookie Betts, and Trea Turner at the position. He’s the top vote getter among the Cincinnati Reds players. That likely comes as no shock to anyone reading the digital pages here at Redleg Nation. De La Cruz has gotten 312,538 votes.

The player with the next most votes by a Reds player is outfielder Austin Hays. Despite missing more than half of the season, he’s performed well when on the field. He ranks 20th among the outfielders. He has received 128,220 votes.

The only other Reds player to get enough votes to show up in the top 10 for their position was Jose Trevino, who is currently in 8th place among catchers. He has 111,343 votes.

All-Star voting isn’t how it used to be. In the previous version it was simply whoever got the most votes at a position was on the team. That is still the case, but not exactly. Now the voting is a two-phase approach. We are still currently in phase one, which ends on June 26th. Once that is over the top two players at each position (or six outfielders) go on to phase two of the voting, with the winner from that phase being named as the All-Star starter at that position.

The remaining players will be decided by player balloting and “the commissioner’s office” according to the rules. The All-Star team will be announced on July 6th on ESPN. From there we will certainly get some reserves/substitutions for injured players or even pitchers who may not be available to play in the game.

You can see the entire list of All-Star votes here.
